Case Study > Startup

Science-tech assessment for a CCU startup's seed fundraise and grant application.

The client need

An early-stage venture firm was looking to lead a seed round for a CCU startup. During the diligence phase, they sought a sparring partner to address some open science-tech-related questions and map out future de-risking milestones in close collaboration with the startup.

Choosing Deepsense

Deepsense presented the client and startup with several suitable expert profiles before committing to work with a senior researcher – lead of a university laboratory with long-standing industry experience – for this project.

The expert conducted a review based on the available material, followed by a management call with the startup’s technical team. Based on these inputs, they compiled a comprehensive written Summary Report assessing the electrochemical process involved, component longevity, performance indicators, process scalability, and infrastructure needs. Furthermore, they worked jointly with the investor and startup to identify science-tech milestones to systematically tackle open issues and de-risk them efficiently.

Outcomes

The investor was able to use the insights to make an informed decision to lead the seed round, while the startup could provide an effective technology de-risking plan. The independent assessment report was also used as a key supporting material for a successful grant application that formed an integral part of the fundraise (30%+ of capital raised).
